Yes. Downloading the app and creating an account are free, on Android as well as iPhone, and most games can be played without paying anything. Only a few premium games are paid, and their price is shown clearly on their page.

Not during the game. You can download a game ahead of time from its page: it stays playable with no network at all, which helps outdoors or abroad. A connection is only needed to download the game and send your result.

A free account is needed to keep your progress, badges and results from one game to the next. It takes a few seconds to create from within the app.

Geolocated games are played outdoors, in the cities where a creator has published one — the list keeps growing. Play-at-home games, on the other hand, can be played anywhere without travelling.

A regular escape game locks you in a room, by appointment and for several tens of euros per person. An outdoor escape game is played outside, on your own terms, whenever you like and at your own pace: your phone replaces the game master, and the city replaces the set.
